Cannot use SQL CE Toolbox with VS 2013

  • I cannot use the SQL CE toolbox with VS2013. Apparently the "DDEX Provider" is not installed and/or registered. I have found zero guidance anywhere as to how to rectify this. Since VS2013 Server Explorer no longer supports SQLCE this addon is the only path available to SQLCE.

  • Hi,

Since your issue is related to SQL CE’s usage in VS2013, I think that SQL Server Compact forum is a better place for your issue. VS General Question forum mainly discusses WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System and Visual Studio Editor.

I have moved this thread to SQL Server Compact forum for better support.

    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Hello,

The DDEX provider for SQL Server Compact is not included with VS 2013, but you can install ErikEJ's SQL Server Compact Toolbox add-in and access SQL Server Compact 3.5 and 4.0 files.

  • What is your question?

I am the author of the SQL Server Compact Toolbox, and it is fully supported with VS 2013 Pro or higher. If you have any issues with or question regarding the Toolbox, suggest you use the Toolbox support forum here:

  • What I don't understand is why if SQL CE is no longer supported with VS2013, then why does it install SQLCE 4.0? Where is the native Microsoft DDEX connector?

  • The DDEX connector was removed from VS 2013, but VS still uses SQL CE internally
