.NET 3.5 Framework installation problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I've been tasked with automating the installation of .NET 3.5.  While I could just use the magic /Q switch, my company requires all installers be in the form of MSIs.  Upon searching the net, I found this article:  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc160717.aspx.  I was able to extract the MSIs fine, but I'm running into errors when trying to install the .NET 2.0 SP1 pre-req.  Running the command msiexec /a netfx20a_x86.msi /update ASPNET.msp;CLR.msp;CRT.msp;NetFX_CA.msp;NetFX_Core.msp;NetFX_Other.msp;PreXP.msp;WinForms.msp;DW.msp USING_EXUIH=1 REBOOT=ReallySuppress TARGETDIR=c:\dotNetFX20 fails telling me that the package is not a valid patch.  Running just msiexec /a netfx20a_x86.msi USING_EXUIH=1 /qb installs 2.0 SP1, but it doesn't appear to fully install it.  If I do that and run the .msp files separately, every one of them fails with an error code 2721 except NetFX_CA.msp.  After lookling through the logs of the patch installs that fail, I see the following error:

    --------------------------------------------
    Action start 14:10:43: CA_ScheduleCacheGACAssembly.3643236F_FC70_11D3_A536_0090278A1BB8.

Has anyone else seen this?  It's driving me a bit nutty.

    Thanks

    Hi, DRAllen,

Firstly, when post a setup and installation thread, please follow the instructions here:

What to do when you go to post a setup and deployment issue on the MSDN forums?

Secondly, for the .NET Framework 3.5 setup file, where did you download?  Is the installation package fine?  Please just double click the .NET Framework 3.5 setup file, to test the file is not corrupted.

Besides, the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 RTM version has been released yesterday, I think you could also try the latest version of .NET Framework.   You could download it here.

Any more questions, please be free to let me know.

          Thanks,

    Best Regards,

    Lingzhi
