Need XL to update wikiHow RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've got XL hyperlinks to wikiHow articles in an XL sheet. I want to write a macro that clicks on hyperlink #1 and thus opens wikiHow, there presses the EDIT key, then the PUBLISH key (perhaps after a window scroll?), and repeats that action about 20x (or preferably a random number of times between 20 and 100), before going down a cell in XL to hyperlinks #2 to 155. Can someone help me write the macro PLEASE? I'm running XL 2011 on El Capitan on an iMac.

  • Hi Chris Garthwaite,

you had mentioned that you want to crate a macro that will open hyperlink.

for that you can use FollowHyperlink Method of VBA.

please visit the link below will give you information regarding that.

    FollowHyperlink Method

Follow the link below will give you an example regarding that.

Open Hyperlinks Using VBA in Excel

then after you had mentioned that ,"there presses the EDIT key, then the PUBLISH key (perhaps after a window scroll?), and repeats that action about 20x".

it means that you want to perform this action in Browser on WikiHow page.

Here I want to tell you that Excel Application doesn't have any functionality or a feature that can control the actions in Web Browser.

But you can try to achieve your requirement using The Internet Explorer Object Model.

Below is the link for that.

    The Internet Explorer Object Model

Following are some more links related to it gives you some more information and examples.

VBA Code To Activate/Press Button On Web Page

IE (Internet Explorer) Automation using Excel VBA

'click' a website's button with excel VBA

  • Greetings,

unfortunately doing actions in a browser, outside excel, will be a tad impossible.
well of course everything is possible but it would require you to handle the http-requests linked to the actions you want to perform and altering your security-settings...

Under windows, loading pages and performing action's by C# is possible but lets not get into that, from the question I'm going to opt you're a tester:

So have you tried testing software like Selenium?
