  • Wait a minute.  You're building a server or a client?  You first say you need to implement a web cam streaming server; then you say you want to play the web cam in CE application.  That sounds like you're watching the video on the CE device.

As for porting some existing streaming server code over from the .NET Framework to .NET Compact Framework, I think you're out of luck.  The .NET CF guys are strongly biased toward building client devices, so the framework doesn't get many of the server pieces.  You can, of course, read the streaming media specification for the type of stream you plan to generate and write network code to send your data in that format.  You'd have to create your own structure for responding to requests from clients, sending the data out into the stream, and communicating with the video camera.

If you're trying to play the streamed video, this might work, but you've told us nothing about the video format or your device.

AFAIK there is no standard for this kind of video streaming or there are
many different standards (that means no one, IMHO).
If your device needs to serve as a webcam server and you want maximum
compatibility you should use HTTP as transport and Jpeg as image format.
You'll not be able to reach high refresh speeds, but any device with a
web browser will be able to access your server and show the camera output.
Currently the CE http server can be programmed using native ISAPI
extensions or vbscript or jscript ASPs, if you want a .NET-based server
    you can check "Padarn".

  • Is this what you mean ?

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/cenet/archive/2008/01/14/pluggable-video-codec-for-rtc-1-5-stack.aspx

(it is the "standard" video-VOIP of CE6, part of RTC library , unfortunately unusable out of the box)
