Question about SqlCommandBuilder RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a fairly simple question regarding the use of SqlCommandBuilder and SqlDataAdapter as it is used here.

    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.data.sqlclient.sqlcommandbuilder.aspx

When the update method is called from the SqlDataAdapter how many trips to the database does it make to perform the updates?  If it makes one trip per row then I will need to find something else to work with since the number of rows I would be working on would be too large for this to be efficient.  If it does all of the updates in one trip or at least chunks it off into groups of say 10,000 then this seems like the ideal approach for what I am working on.

    Thanks.

  • It executes the Update command once for each row in the dataset that has the Updated property set.  Could be thousands of time s if you've got a large amount of changes.
