Virtual Sound Device in HyperV? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Virtual Server 2005 didn't have support for a virtual sound device

    Virtual PC did.

Does Windows server 2008 with HyperV support a virtual sound device?

We have some applications that require a sound card on our servers.  If we want to use the VM technology for testing or for scaling out our services in production for spikes we would need support for Virtual Sound devices.

  • I believe the answer to your question is 'no it doesn't'.  I use Hyper-V to host my test systems for QA, but then our application doesn't care about sound so this isn't an issue to me at all.

but I'm not really a true expert with Hyper-V yet (getting there.. but gradually)  to be sure I'd try the technet forums where there is a much larger panel of experts available.

As of 8/22/2008 this forum is de-comissioned, and there's pretty much nobody minding this particular MSDN forum..  all the virtualization support is over in the technet forum

(note the pinned message at the top of the forum that they are de-commissioning these on the 22nd  )

Further discussion of this issue should be moved to the technet virtulization forum.
