Contact name change not showing in mail groups RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've found an issue regarding contacts that are added to a contact group in Outlook 2010.

    Situation:

    • I created a new contact group
    • I added contacts
    • Saved the group

Now a persons name has to change for whatever reason so I do the folowing:

    • I edit the contact
    • I Change the name (and Display name) of the contact
    • I save and close the contact

Now if I open the contact group you should expect the new Display name to show up. But instead of the new Display name it still shows the old display namen.

  • The name be automatically updated - imagine a DL with 1000 contacts. Do you really want Outlook to attempt to update all of them every time you open the DL?

Click the "Update Now" button in the DL inspector to update the members of the DL

  • I can only suggest doing that in your code- call DistListItem.GetMember (returns Recipient object), then compare Recipient.Name with Recipient.AddressEntry.GetContact.DisplayName.

If using Redemption is an option, you can use RDODistListItem.UpdateMembers - it does update the display names of the DL members from the contact names.
