HELP! - SPS 2003 Restore Failed - Site Already Exists RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

following a disater on our SAN we are trying to restore our Sharepoint without success.

Following an issue with the chassis on our SAN, it became apparent that our Sharep[oint server was corrupt, so we attempted to restore using the SPS Backup and Restore Utility. After quickly reading up on the matter we firstly used SPS Central Administration site to delete the Portal Site before restoring from SPS Backups. During the deletion of the Portal Site there was an error and the deletion did not complete successfully. We then had to delete one of the databases manually using SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.

It seemed at this point we could then perform a restore...

We used the SharePoint Server Data Backup and Restore Utility to perform the restore.

The restore job manages to restore all 3 databases (content_01, profile_01 and services_01). However, once it does this it throws back an error stating that the site http://sharepoint already exists.

here is a snippet from the log file SPS_00005228_SPSBACKUP.LOG

All i can think of is that the Deletion of the Portal Site it has missed something to do with this?

We believe that our SPS Backup is sound, and that we can restore, but there is something that we are missing that will let us delete the site so that we may restore it???

At present we are trying the following command, but it appears to have hung....?

    stsadm -o deletesite -url http://sharepoint

Any ideas from experience would be welcome ???

    cheers,
