Answers

  • well dear help me to get the time from google diretly like

    https://www.google.com/search?q=Iraq time

    and show time in label

    Just use WebRequest and parse the result.

    Quick test to display the time on my OS, without errors checking :

    Dim request As WebRequest = WebRequest.Create("https://www.google.com/search?q=Iraq time")
    request.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
    Dim response As WebResponse = request.GetResponse()
    Dim dataStream As Stream = response.GetResponseStream()
    Dim reader As New StreamReader(dataStream)
    Dim responseFromServer As String = reader.ReadToEnd()
    Dim sHourDivBegin As String = "<div class=""_rkc _Peb"">"
    Dim sHourDivEnd As String = "</div>"
    Dim sHour As String = responseFromServer.Substring(responseFromServer.IndexOf(sHourDivBegin) + sHourDivBegin.Length)
    sHour = sHour.Substring(0, sHour.IndexOf(sHourDivEnd))

    Console.WriteLine(sHour)

    reader.Close()
    response.Close()

  • Create a web client and scrape it from http://nist.time.gov;

    Sunday, June 25, 2017 5:36 AM
  • As Theo said, just convert the timestamp (microseconds) from https://nist.time.gov/actualtime.cgi

  • I know there are persons who tell that they cannot use that automatic setting because they have no Internet connection and therefore they want to get it from Internet.

    It is very easy to just say the answers you get are wrong, but when you get many answers, it is more likely that your understanding is what is wrong.

    "The output of .ToLocalTime depends on the current culture and the local time zone of the system on which it is run."

    If your computer is running Windows, and is set up to reflect the proper time zone, it will show the correct local Date and time. What does the code show and what should be the correct Date & Time ?

    The answers you received in the previous thread are correct, therefore you will only get more of the same correct answers here.

    Unless you can explain how you define the "correct" and "incorrect" times, there is nothing to add here and this thread will be removed.

    Guys and Girls, I'm really flabbergasted. So many replies, are you really getting the time in that way. A wast of money in my perception.

    Why do you it all so difficult and don't use the build in method of the OS, I cannot find one reason therefore?

    Beside in an ASP and likewise application.

  • @Devon,

    That is the way I showed as one of the first replies.

    Why would you try to get a datetime from internet in your program as the user can set it simply by setting a checkbox (or as it is in windows 10 a radiobutton)

    In Windows 98 until Windows 2000 this was AFAIK not available, but we are using the sun as well not anymore to get a date time. Currently most persons simply use their smartphone which has this also build in.

    Example:

    https://time.is/Baghdad

    he will show time in city i need get this time and show it in msgbox

    That's a very easy task, I'd be happy to help you but, according to the website:

    Time.is displays exact, official atomic clock time for any time zone (more than 7 million locations) in 46 languages. Automated access is prohibited. Support for cookies and JavaScript is required. They have an API that you can register for, try that.

    Just use WebRequest and parse the result.

    Quick test to display the time on my OS, without errors checking :

    Dim request As WebRequest = WebRequest.Create("https://www.google.com/search?q=Iraq time")
    request.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
    Dim response As WebResponse = request.GetResponse()
    Dim dataStream As Stream = response.GetResponseStream()
    Dim reader As New StreamReader(dataStream)
    Dim responseFromServer As String = reader.ReadToEnd()
    Dim sHourDivBegin As String = "<div class=""_rkc _Peb"">"
    Dim sHourDivEnd As String = "</div>"
    Dim sHour As String = responseFromServer.Substring(responseFromServer.IndexOf(sHourDivBegin) + sHourDivBegin.Length)
    sHour = sHour.Substring(0, sHour.IndexOf(sHourDivEnd))

    Console.WriteLine(sHour)

    reader.Close()
    response.Close()

    Here is a free and legal API

    https://www.amdoren.com/time-api/

    Get newtonsoft JSON also, easy to find here

    Sample Code:

    Option Strict On
    Imports Newtonsoft.Json

    'Get API Key here (FREE) - https://www.amdoren.com/time-api/
    'https://www.amdoren.com/api/timezone.php?api_key={Your API KEY}&loc=New+York
    'https://www.amdoren.com/api/timezone.php?api_key={Your API KEY}&loc=Iraq,+Baghdad
    Public Class Form1

        Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
            Dim JSONData As String = TextBox1.Text ' Testing only
            'In real life just get the data via DownloadString or WebRequest
            Dim DTI As New DateTimeInfo
            DTI = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject(Of DateTimeInfo)(JSONData)
            TextBox2.Clear()
            TextBox2.AppendText("Status     = " & DTI.Status & vbNewLine)
            TextBox2.AppendText("Error      = " & DTI.ErrorMessage & vbNewLine)
            TextBox2.AppendText("Time       = " & DTI.Time & vbNewLine)
            TextBox2.AppendText("Timezone   = " & DTI.Timezone & vbNewLine)
            TextBox2.AppendText("GMT Offset = " & DTI.Offset.ToString & vbNewLine)
            TextBox2.AppendText("DST        = " & DTI.DaylightSavings & vbNewLine)

        End Sub
    End Class

    Partial Public Class DateTimeInfo
        <JsonProperty("Status")>
        Public Property Status As Integer

  • I do not know Visual Basic, I'm just getting started with Micrososft's Technologies.

    Wouldn't be easier to make a call to: http://api.timezonedb.com/v2/get-time-zone?key=YOUR_API_KEY&format=json&by=zone&zone=America/Chicago and then just parse the json/xml value?

    Refference: https://timezonedb.com/references/get-time-zone

    Searching on google and scrapping the time is bad, imho.

  • Google and other websites are well known for changing the output to specifically discourage scraping. That is why I posted an example using an API. I would have used timezonedb myself but I saw a few comments that said they don't output seconds. Seems like those comments were wrong.
