Expression Blend for Microsoft Visual Studio 11 BETA, can not open a project and can not create a new project

    Question

  • I did installation on the following sequence:

    1. Install Windows 8 Consumer Preview
    2. Install Visual Studio 11 BETA
    3. Install Visual Studio for Windows Phone - Unsuccessfull, I need a windows phone emulator (this is not really problem for me)
    4. Install Expression Blend for Silverlight Preview - I am still have project on Silverlight 5

I am afraid there is a wrong sequence on my installation. After all above installation, I tried to open a project on Expression Blend for Visual Studio Beta, but I can not open the project, and also I can not create a new project. I have tried all project template but it was unsuccessful. I am looking for a stand alone Expression Blend fro Visual Studio 11 Beta, but I can not find where I can download.

    Please help me!

  • This is a known issue in Blend for Visual Studio 11 Beta in side by side install with Dev 10.You need to set the environment variable VisualStudioVersion = 11.0.

You can do this by adding the variable (VisualStudioVersion = 11.0) as a system variable in System Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Environment Variables.

Blend for Visual Studio 11 Beta will not be available as a separate download. It will be installed as a part of Visual Studio 11 Beta installation. Please feel free to contact me directly at harikm @ microsoft . com for this or any other related issue .
