  • I am trying to register my copy of Express 2010, because it has got to the end of the trial period. However when I click to get the registration code, I am told that there is a connection problem. Is there another way to register?

You should use the latest version of Visual Studio Community as it is free
    and up to date.

If you still want to work with the 2010 Express version for some reason,
then AFAIK you can no longer register the trial version. However you can
still download a version that doesn't need to be registered.

    Go to:

    https://www.visualstudio.com/vs/older-downloads/

Scroll down to the older versions, 2010 link.

    Click on the download link.

Enter your account details when prompted. You should be able to use
the account you use for these forums.

Try the key that's there for Visual Studio 2010 VB Express with your current
    installation.

If that doesn't work, then from the available downloads choose the one
for Visual Studio 2010 Express that doesn't require a key and download it.

Burn it to a disc. Install VB Express from that disc. It doesn't need to be
    registered.

  • That's nearly 10 years old - that's an eternity in terms of technology!

One of the things you can do to help protect yourself is to try to use software that is as recent as possible.  Old software doesn't have fixes for newly-discovered vulnerabilities.
