Role / Permission to create a folder in ADLS

    Question

  • I am currently assigned to a contributor role, but I am getting Access control exception error when I click Data explorer and create a new folder ( there are currently no folders in Azure Data lake store).

What kind of permission do I need ? DO I have to be owner in order to create a new folder ?

  • Here  is a pointer to the security overview.  See the RBAC and ACLs sections.  The RBAC governs account management, and the file and folder ACLs govern data access.  So, as contributor, you have the ability to perform many many management operations on the ADLS account, but you also need to have write access ACL rights on the folder into which you are creating the new folder.  In setting up ACLs on file and folders, we recommend that you add users to security groups and assign ACLs for files and folders to those security groups.
