  • Here's the core issue:

    "\Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Setup_4.0.30319\Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x64.msu) failed with 0x240006 - (null).
PerformOperation on exe returned exit code 2359302 (translates to HRESULT = 0x240006)

INSTALLMESSAGE_ERROR [There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. Please refer to the setup log for more information. ]
MSI (C:\Users\Colton\AppData\Local\Temp\Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Setup_4.0.30319\netfx_Extended_x64.msi) Installation failed. Msi Log: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Setup_20111203_121108540-MSI_netfx_Extended_x64.msi.txt"

This indicates an issue with your Windows Installer.

A forums contributor, 'irarab', found an effective fix for this issue. I am quoting it here:

"I went to "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET" there is a directory called "assembly".

I looked in the directory and found some subdirectories with lots of old dot net 4 files. I renamed the directory assembly2 and tried to install Dot Net 4 and it worked!!!!

(You can't delete the assembly directory unless you take ownership of it but you can rename it.)

It seems that something was in the old "assembly" directory."

Please try this, then retry the install.

  • The log excerpt does not show the reason your install failed.

You need to provide full logs as follows:

Please collect your install logs with this:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E0DA314F-6216-4A18-BC6B-7D29CF83AF20&displaylang=e&displaylang=en

After you run Collect.exe, you'll find vslogs.cab in your %temp% directory. Please upload vslogs.cab to a public site, like SkyDrive, and post the link here.

  • Scratch that

It installed, but it isn't working

  • How do you know it isn't working?

You can verify your .NET Frameworks with this tool:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx

Post the first 25 lines and last 25 lines of tool output here.

  • Hi Donkeyflavor,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Could you please collect the fresh logs for me?

    ·         Download and run the Log Collection Tool: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e0da314f-6216-4a18-bc6b-7d29cf83af20&displaylang=en

    ·         Upload the vslogs.cab file located in %temp% folder to an open website like Windows Live SkyDrive or send it to me (E-mail: v-alsun_at_microsoft_dot_com).

Note: Please attach the link of this post in the mail.

If you have any other concerns, please feel free to let me know.

    Best Regards,

  • Yes, that shows successful verification of .NET Framework 4.0.

So, again, what makes you think it is not working correctly?

What .NET applications refuse to run, and which .NET Framework version do they use?

Have you reinstalled the tool in question?

  • I may well be missing something, but I can find no install logs for .NET Framework 4.0 in your latest vslogs.cab.

Is it possible that you cleared your %temp% directory after the last install and before your ran Collect, exe?

    Monday, December 5, 2011 3:56 PM
  • I did, yes, I figured it would have overwritten it and I would have had less trouble finding it had I cleared it

  • A bandwidth monitor wasn't working, I reinstalled it and it seems to be now.
Terraria isn't too happy about running, though.

Considering the other program is working just fine, this likely is a separate problem and my original one may be solved.

It was a different problem, and Id like to thank you guys very much for your support :D
