Are failed disks erased? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Very simple question but I can't find an answer!

What happens to the data on disks once they have failed? For example, they are magnetically wiped then shredded. Are any industry standard mechanisms used?

  • Thanks for this June. The article you linked provided a good description and gave me the search terms to find the current one myself, for anyone else reading this search for microsoft azure data protection, or go directly to azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/support/trust-center/privacy/data-retention/ if it still exists.

NIST 800-88 is the actual mechanism
