SQL Server 2014 Cumulative Update 11 Fails.

    Question

  • From Windows update on my names instance, this update KB4010392 fails repeatedly with error code 0x84B30002. Can't find what that means anywhere. FWIW, this is all on a names instance (local)\SQL2014.

be that as it may .. I downloaded the offline installer which also fails but with:

The version of SQL Server instance SQL2014 does not match the version expected by the SQL Server update. The installed SQL Server product version is 12.2.5000.0, and the expected SQL Server version is 12.1.4100.1.

    select @@Version
    Microsoft SQL Server 2014 (SP2-GDR) (KB3194714) - 12.0.5203.0 (X64) Sep 23 2016 18:13:56 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Developer Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.3 <X64> (Build 9600: )

My question then becomes how on earth is the versioning so bloody messed up here that no two items report the SAME version?

So as per the message your server is already patched to higher version so in any case the lower version cannot be applied. The problem is with the Windows update It has history of suggesting incorrect updates. But IIRC this has been fixed
