  • Hi alisiaro,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Microsoft Visual Studio is an integrated development environment (IDE) from Microsoft. It is used to develop console and graphical user interface applications along with Windows Forms applications, web sites, web applications, and web services in both native code together with managed code for all platforms supported by Microsoft Windows, Windows Mobile, Windows CE, .NET Framework, .NET Compact Framework and Microsoft Silverlight.

Please have a look at the page to know “What is Visual Studio”

The .NET Framework (pronounced dot net) is a software framework that runs primarily on Microsoft Windows. It includes a large library and provides language interoperability (each language can use code written in other languages) across several programming languages. Programs written for the .NET Framework execute in a software environment (as contrasted to hardware environment), known as the Common Language Runtime (CLR), an application virtual machine that provides important services such as security, memory management, and exception handling. The class library and the CLR together constitute the .NET Framework.

When you are building project, you can choose “.NET Framework” version, please have a look at this screenshot:

You can see my choice of .NET Framework is “.NET Framework 4”.

If you want to know more about how to develop .NET Framework applications, please refer to this page

  • Do you have a version of Visual Studio installed? If so, what version?

Some of the project templates available in Visual Studio (2002 and newer) allow you to develop managed applications (those that use the .NET class library to support development and produced "managed applications" that require the support of the .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR) to execute.

For a basic introduction to .NET, read here:
