Azure Recovery Services - Registering a VM (version1) to a Backup Vault Fails to Register RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am able to create a backup vault.   Backup vault is in same region as virtual machines.   I can discover virtual machines.  However when I attempt to register the virtual machine, the agent is created and if fails with:

Microsoft Azure Backup encountered an internal error.

Wait for a few minutes and then try the operation again. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Support.

The result is the same after trying a number of times over a number of days.   It does not matter if the attempt to register is done through Azure Management Portal or Azure PowerShell cmdlets.  Result is same.

According to documentation this can happen due to the following (however none of these apply to the virtual machine being registered).

    1) a premium LRD.

    2) multi NIC

    3) Load balancer (internal and internet-facing)

    Any assistance will be appreciated.

  • Hi Tom,

Just to be sure are these Azure VMs you are trying to backup using Azure Iaas Backup or are these on-prem VMs that you are trying to backup by installing the Azure Backup Agent?

    Regards,
    Malar.

  • Hi Malar,

These are Azure  IAAS VMs  not on prem.

    Thanks,

    Tom
