Customize the columns a user can choose from when creating a custom list view RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using SP Designer 2007.  Is it possible to customize the columns that users can select when creating a custom list view?

    For example:

If I have 3 fields available for view customization:

    1) First Name

    2) Last Name

    3) Full Name (Calculated Field)

If a user were to create their own customized view, I would only want them to be able to select #3 (Full Name) for their calendar.  The others I would prefer not be a selectable choice and either be hidden or disabled.

I have numerous fields that are either not directly used or for various reasons don't want an enduser to select for a custom view.

    Thanks,

    George

  • Hi George,

In SP 2007, there isn't any ootb feature to restrict users at column level, yes you can restrict them at item level where they can only edit their own items.

To apply column based permissions you have to probably go for code

    Please refer - http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/SecureField

    Hope this helps
