Can't install .net framework 3.0 - fails on WCF RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been unable to install .net framework 3.0. I continue to get an error:

[05/14/08,13:29:04] Windows Communication Foundation: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Windows Communication Foundation. MSI returned error code 1603
[05/14/08,13:29:13] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Windows Communication Foundation is not installed.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled 2.0, also IIS, run a .net cleanup tool, run a tool to set registry permissions - all to no avail. I'm running XP and just installed SP3 - it didn't work on SP2 either.

Here's the one of the dd_wcf_ log files:

  • Please try using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions written at http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/739820.aspx

If the error still persist, please follow What to do when you go to post a setup and deployment issue on the MSDN forums?

  • Thanks for the response. I have previously used the SubInACL tool to set the registry permissions. I ran the Collect tool and posted the .cab file at http://www.file-upload.net/en/download-863272/vslogs.cab.html. I am using the download file - dotnetfx3setup.exe - from the Microsoft download center. I currently have .net 2.0 SP1 installed -  I got that from the Microsoft download center as well. Btw, I have unistalled my Anti-virus software and the firewall is turned off. Thanks.

  • I was working on something else, but I'm back and still can't install the 3.0 framework. I've tried a couple other things. One post said to set the ServiceModel 3.0.0.0 registry key permissions to Everyone. Couldn't do that - the key doesn't exist. However I set the folder permissions to Everyone, but that didn't work either. I've had to upload a new set of files - they are located at http://www.file-upload.net/en/download-947854/vslogs.cab.html. Any help would be appreciated.

Besides registry access problem, it looks that your system was in bad state, and I suggest you to use WmiDiag tool:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=D7BA3CD6-18D1-4D05-B11E-4C64192AE97D
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter/topics/help/wmidiag.mspx
to diagnose WMI issues on the machine.

    Thanks.
