Access 2019 VBE opens in a micro-window; I want MORE RRS feed

  • Question

  • In the usual open database, open VBE, close everything in some sequence, the VBE presents on the next database open as a postage stamp. Not always, but enough times that I can’t see the thing, and I start wondering if Access has gone crazy. And then I have to remember that it has this behavior and go looking for the stamp.

Any recommendations as to how to make the VBE open at the same size it was when I closed it?

  • This is a known issue reported by several including myself.

At the moment, all you can do is to resize the tiny window to normal size.
Most likely, it will not miniaturise again for a long time.

  • A screenshot ?

I saw something about phantom breakpoints that cause such behaviors...solution was to delete the module and recreate it.

  • Here's what it looks like, but this image is much enlarged.

By the time I want to open the VBE again, it's a little late to recreate the Module.

  • I not aware there has been a change in how this works.

However, as a general rule, I always work with two monitors, and thus the VBA IDE is always maximized.

However, if for some reason you don’t want to work max window, or you have say a single monitor?

Well, the IDE will remember the last size you used + hitting the save button.

So, size the IDE, and hit the save button in the menu bar. Now, next time you open, it should be the same size.

Also, ctrl-s does the same thing. So perhaps it was very small, and you hit save, or ctrl-s.

So, just size the way you want, and then hit save.

It’s possible that you need  a compact + repair here, but, assuming you ALWAYS hold down the shift key to prevent start-up code from running, then while in the IDE, a ctrl-s should freeze or “save” the current size you have.

  • Albert –

I use two monitors as well, but not always maximized in each window.

Au contraire, the VBE does NOT remember the last size, some times. I’m trying to recall if this happened to me in A10. I think it might’ve, so maybe there’s more than A19 to consider.

    There is no startup code.
