  • Hello,

I have migrated a solution (several projects) from VS2013 to VS2019, now every time I try to "Update service reference" (WCF service) VS2019 crashes.

  • I would try doing a repair on Visual Studio 2019.   It could not hurt to run a virus scan. I would also try stop all apps but visual studio when updating the service reference.

Another option is use SvcUtil.exe to generate the proxy class to call the WCF service.

  • Hi,

    thank you for your reply.

I have already tried to repair VS2019 without success (the problem persists)

Honestly I do not know Svcutil.exe tool and I'd like it to work from the VS2019 environment as it worked perfectly with VS2013

other information: the error occurs during "Generating service reference client code ..." phase

  • Hi Milanesi Stefano,

    Sorry for delay in reply.

According to this log, VS IDE might be out of virtual memory. So we suggest you follow these steps to clear the caches for visual studio

    ## disable "Enable full solution Analysis" optoin

    Note: Tools/ Options/ Text Editor/ C#

    ## clear caches files

    Note: "C:\Users\[User name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\16.0_[random number]\ComponentModelCache"

    Any feedback will be expected.

    Best Regards,
