Designer Error Package Could Not Be Registered

    Question

  • I just installed the 64-Bit Windows Developer Preview with Visual Studio 11. All was working well until today; the designer throws an error.

    System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException

Package could not be registered. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80073CF6)

What does this mean, and how could i fix it (if possible) without reinstalling windows?

    Thanks

  • Can you build and run a brand new C# application?

Close VS, Launch VS, Create new C# Windows Metro application, F5.

If that works, we can take another look on why the designer is not working. If not, something more fundamental is broken and I will loop in some other folks.

    Thanks.

  • The only I discovered was to do a Reset of my Win8 install, after backing up the source

  • Varunsrin, that sounds like a potential bug. Can you log it here:

  • Hi mitchthepcman:

Have you checked up with http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/toolsforwinapps/thread/38847ac8-e387-4af6-8411-c9c95c27e67f ? for Designer issue.

By the way, for developer express VS2011, seems that the default designer hasn't been configured [registered correctly]

    Hope will help you.

  • Venkat62, using Visual Studio 2012 RC on an RTM build of Windows 8 is not supported.

    Thanks,
