Auto fill in some values RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I want to have a document like this:

    [Title]
    [Date]
    [User]

    These are kind of placeholders.
    Now I want to fill in these placeholders when I place the document on a certain location.

    Any help?

    Tnx

  • Hi Vandeput,

    The simplest way is to use fields. In Word 2007 or 2010 choose Insert > Quick Parts > Fields.  From the dialog scan the available Field Names and probably for your needs the DATE, USERNAME and TITLE are the ones you want.

    Another method is to write VBA code, which is in the document or in the document’s attached template. It might look something like this

        With Selection.Find

            .ClearFormatting

            .Text = "[Title]"

            .Forward = True

            .Wrap = wdFindStop

            .Format = False

            .Execute

        End With

        Selection.TypeText Text:=strTitle

    Hope this helps
