List Web Part - View as list, not as selectable item RRS feed

  • Question

  • In SharePoint 2007, when adding a List Web Part to a page with the settings as below the List was displayed with the field name in a grey bar and the field contents just below it - there was no way for a user to select the item within the list or select the list.  Now, when adding the exact same kind of List Web Part in 2010, there is a check box next to the field name as well as the contents and when you hover over the name or contents they are highlighted as if selectable.  How can I make it appear as it did before?  This is especially frustrating for our "Message of the Day" list web parts and "Helpful Links" list web parts, as the former is for viewing only and the latter is just to click on a link.

    Web Part Properties:

Selected View: (View as edited in List Properties, displays only "Message of the Day" field.

If the answer is SharePoint Designer, please include explicit step-by-step instructions, as I am completely unfamiliar with this program.

  • This is easy to do, in your list, change the column that appears to Title not the Title (linked to document). This will make the title not linkable. As to the check boxes, modify the view, for the web part and in the tabular view section, clear the checkbox, this will remove checkboxes from your webpart.
