cannot retrieve application. Authentication error RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi

we have setup sharepoint 2010 with sql reporting services.  A cube is also running that we use to develop reports.  Initially the server was called serversqlcube and this was initially how everyone accessed the site.

the sharepoint server is in a seperate domain and no trusts exist.  i have created a dns record called cube.domain.com.au and users can still access the sites without any issues.  The issue is when users try to access the site and edit a report in report builder.

some users it work but for others i get the error cannot retrieve application.  Authentication error.  Other users in the office access wthout any issues

dns works fine, i have also added the disableloopback reg key & and added the key that allows you to add host names in the registry.  i only added cube.domain.com.au and not http://cube.domain.com.au nut i imagine thats not the issue.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks

  • Hi Phill,

The issue may be caused by one of the following factors:

    1. The user name and password used to log on to the SharePoint site need to be saved.
    2. The users need to launch Internet Explorer (IE) with Administrative Privileges on the client or it will cause authentication to fail.

To resolve the issue, please follow the steps below:

    1. Launch IE by right clicking the IE icon and clicking "Run As Administrator".
    2. Check the "Save Password" check box on the user name and password entry box when the users initially browse to the SharePoint site.

If the Anonymous Authentication is not enabled on the SharePoint site, you can also check the result after enabling the anonymous access.

    Hope this helps.

  • hi,

this work for launching the reporting services.  the issue we have after that is when the user selects use these credentials to run query designer we get the following error:

An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

    ----------------------------

Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

    ----------------------------

A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running.

when i use, use the following credentials i get the following error

Non-Windows user credentials were supplied for a non-http connection to Analysis Services. The Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services data extension requires Windows Integrated Security unless connecting via http or https.

all users have the same permissions in the domain they are trying to connect to.

    thanks

  • Hi Phill,

    Sorry for the delay.

Based on the current information, the issue may occur if the credentials supplied for the Report Builder does not exist on SSAS server. Here, I suggest that you use HTTP access to SSAS cube and enable Anonymous access to OLAP Directory in IIS Manager. For the detailed information, please see:
How to Configure HTTP Access to SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services on IIS7

    Hope this helps.
