SQL Server 2008 Mirroring and Application redirection when not using ADO or SQL native Client for connection string RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are looking for technical documentation on the proper proceure to handle application redirection during a SQL Server 2008 database mirroring failover event.  All documentation we read relies on using the connection string to identify the failover server, however, we are not using the ADO or the SQL native client.  So we need client redirection to be handled differently, perhaps using NLB or BigIP load balancer.

  • Hi Rolias!

Right now there is no real supported way to do that. I have seen an F5 configuration to accomplish that and I know about an unsupported cluster ressource DLL to do a VNN failover for mirroring, but both are quite crappy and unrealiable solutions. Your salvation will come somewhere beginning of 2012 with the next release of SQL Server. I can give you details on the crappy solutions of course, but I would rather wait if you have a chance.
