Set SharePoint 2013 List Item Approval Status to draft RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

i have created a SharePoint Blog and enabled content approval.

When i am creating a new item i can select "save as draft" but the column "approval status" is on pending.

Is it possible to set this value to draft ?

    Thanks.

  • Using the builtin approval workflow you can't really change the status codes.  But you could use the built-in "Three State workflow" to create your own approval workflow.  In the Three state workflow you get to specify what the state names are so you could change the approval status to to whatever you want it to be.

  • Approval Status is system column which may have only predefined values:
    - Approved
    - Rejected
    - Pending
and we can't change them. It is possible to replace value from Pending to Draft in list view by javascript, but I wouldn't recommend to do that because this is standard functionality and this change may confuse users which are familiar with Sharepoint and may cause side effects.

  • Thank you all for your answers.

But how a users knows that a list item is a draft ?

Because if the user clicks on "save as draft" he maybe wonders why there is no draft value in the list ?

How can i achieve this, is this possible ootb ? Is there any column in sharepoint list that can realize this?

  • Draft status is denoted by the version number of the item.  If its a draft it should have a minor version.
