About Information schema RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I know there is information_schema in mysql or sql like SELECT * FROM information_schema.columns WHERE ... .

Is there any facility to access table names and details like information schema in ms-access without using any programming languages.

    Thanks

  • I don't know about information schema in Access but information schema in SQL Server and MySQL are ANSI SQL defined meta data that can be used to access database objects, implementation is manufacturer depenendent so what you get in MySQL is not the same with SQL Server version.  The RDBMS vendor version of SQL is needed to access information schema.  Hope this helps.

  • No, unfortunately Jet SQL does not really support a data description language. It's limited to data definition and data manipulation functionality.

  • OleDbConnection class allows getting schema information using GetOleDbSchemaTable and GetSchema methods. It returns information about objects in a database through OLEDB provider. Jet OLEDB provider has some limitations and does not return all the information, but it could be enough in your case.
