About KE source: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/5c3b67b6-3fe2-4789-b2df-eb63419e7ab6/kinect-for-windows-v2-sdk-now-available?forum=kinectv2sdk
The SDK browser can be updated online when we push the next update, you will see Kinect Evolution code.
As for the shadow, that is to be expected given how light will cast IR shadows. Whenever your hand is closer to the sensor, the falloff on further away objects will be noticeable.
As for muscle man, see previous threads(heartrate etc). This was never a sample but a demonstration based on tech from an Xbox One title. We are working with the team to see if we can get a sample done, but not something available today.

When I try to download Kinect Evolution from that web link, I'm getting redirected to the front page of the Windows Store app. It also doesn't show up in search results or under the list of apps published by Microsoft.
Was it maybe only published to the US store? (I'm in Canada.)
EDIT:
Nevermind, it's showing up now (just before 8pm)

There was an update so it should appear in the countries we are releasing the sensor to. Additonally, you must be using an x64 based operating system to use Kinect. Kinect Evolution does take advantage of the new api's in 8.1 that are not compatible with 8.0. So you should be running Windows 8.1.
Please note, if you are still running Windows 8.0 you should think about upgrading soon. Support for 8.0 in one year, so plan to upgrade to 8.1.
