VS 2008 Setup Project Package Hangs Installing .NET Framework RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've created two setup projects, one with .NET 3.5 as a prerequisite, and another with .NET 3.5 SP1 as a prerequisite.  When we installed the first one on a server, it got as far as starting to install the .NET 3.5 framework, and then it just hung/froze/sat there.  We ended up killing off the install and downloading the framework ourselves, after which the installation when re-run worked fine.  I downloaded VS 2008 SP1 and .NET 3.5 SP1, but got the same problem when we deployed a new version of our application.

What would cause the installer to hang during the installation of the .NET framework?

    Thanks.

  • In the %temp% directory is a folder named something like vsd*, which would have a file called install.log in it...  seeing the contents of that log would help me to understand where the setup.exe bootstrapper was when it hung to determine if that is where the hang was happening, or whether it was actually during the NetFx install itself.
