How to permanently disable UAC in Windows Server 2008? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Experts,

We are in process of migration of our application from WIn2003 to Win2008. Our is a legacy application built using VB6 and utilizing COM components. While getting our application worked on WIN 2008, we frequently used to get COM failure exception because of UAC is being turned on automatically. It alos gives 'Access Denied' error during IIS reset.

We have so far followed the following approach to turn off the UAC but still it turns on automatically randomly resulting in COM failure exception:

    1) Override group policiy - User Account Control: Use Admin Approval Mode for the built-in Administrator account (disabled)

    2) Override group policy- User Account Control: Run All Administrators In Admin Approval Mode (disabled)

Even though we turn off the 'Admin Approval Mode' group policy, sometimes on restrat/refresh of the server, the policy gets turned on automatically thereby causing access exception while reseetting IIS.
