SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) for SQL Server 2016 Availablity in Visual Studio Online Scripted Builds RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi,

We are trying to set up CI on our database via the hosted build service available on Visual Studio Online, however we are also using the new row level security features, which are only available in SQL Server 2016 and Azure.

It seems that the version of SSDT installed for scripted builds is for an earlier version and therefore does not include the features we need.

I am aware that the latest version is still in preview, however row level security has been available publicly in Azure for several months (our live service is Azure hosted) so it would be nice if Visual Studio Online was brought up to speed.

  • SSD for SQL 2016 is still in preview according to this page https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt204009.aspx.  We do not install preview SDKs and tools on the VMs as that may impact the released software that is currently installed.
