Alerts and notifications for MOSS 2010 RRS feed

  • Does Sharepoint 2010 requires third party tools to provide alerts and email notification mechanism, I heard that some organizations are using Alert Plus for Sharepoint 2007, is this product good for such purpose, and is it still required for MOSS 2010?

  • There are as far as I know no products from anyone that have been written for  MOSS 2010.

    Ask for SharePoint Server 2010 (SPS 2010) products and you might have a better chance of a useful response.

  • No, you don't need a 3rd-party tool for 2010 nor for 2007.  Alerts are built-in as are email notifications for things, such as Tasks, built-in workflows, and administrative notifications for access requests and many other things.  You also have great flexibility built-in for sending emails via custom workflows created in SharePoint Designer without writing code.

    I've never heard of Alert Plus - that would be a separate question from your main question.  It was never required for 2007, so I'm not sure what made you ask that.
