My TP3 container experience RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I've blogged and put up a readthedocs page on my experience with Windows Containers so far. Workarounds and issues resolved include...

    • Running NSIS installers in a container in silent mode
    • Port mappings: looks like web servers inside containers must be on port 80. Couldn't make port 8888 work inside a container.
    • Environment variables: my installer set them via the Registry. Suspect Windows Containers didn't like this. Switched to setting them in a launch script and that worked.

  • I have tomcat serving on 9727 from inside a container.

  • So what did it take to make that happen? A firewall rule like this...

New-NetFirewallRule -Name "TCP9727" -DisplayName "HTTP on TCP/9727" -Protocol tcp -LocalPort 9727

...and a docker run port mapping like this...

    docker run -p 80:9727 ...

    Thanks
