Regarding Conversion of Atheros Wifi driver(based on WDM) to KMDF based Driver RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

I am developing wifi driver for my network adapter (USB based), I am using Atheros wifi driver(since it supports wifi virtualization compared to native wifi driver USB sample) as reference,But it is based on WDM. Is it possible to convert it to KMDF based driver? (or) Is it better to go with WDM based driver? If So, why?

    Thanks in Advance...

  • For a PCI based miniport, kmdf doesn't buy you much. Kmdf buys you a lot for a USB based miniport thouh, so you should convert over. The methodology is pretty simple: everywhere there is a direct HW access (memory mapped Io, ports, etc), you change them to use URBs and the appropriate kmdf WDFUSBPIPE APIs
