ASP on Linux RRS feed

    Hello,

I am trying to migrate a localhost web page which accesses a MySQL database on Linux Mint 19.3.  The original code was written on a Windows platform.  I have found that the <% %> Syntax for HTML Encoding Output in ASP.NET syntax does not work, can anyone tell me what it should be replaced with?

    thanks and regards

    Hi,

Seems you are using ASP.NET 4.x in which case you could try https://www.mono-project.com/docs/faq/aspnet/

This is the "ASP.NET Core" rewrite which is cross platform out of  the box (or could it be even an "ASP Classic" page, do you have a single page or a whole site ?)

ASP.NET is not cross platform and does not run on Linux natively.  Install and configure Mono on your Linux Mint box to get ASP.NET running.  This means you need to read th docs and visit Mono and Linux support options.

I recommend a Windows platform if you are not familiar with Linux or a rewrite using .NET Core which is cross platform.

Thanks for your input, I thought that to run ASP on Linux, one has to download dotnet from Microsoft and this I have done successfully.  I have also loaded UNIXODBC, I think successfully,  The ASP pages display ok apart from the code that access the MySQL database; I thought that that was an ODBC configuration problem because I am really having promlems thare.  I will check out Mono and see if that helps.
