Add Word 2003 project to a web project RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Mike, I installed VSTO 2005 SE and VSTO 3.0. I have VS2008 and working with .NET 3.5 Framework.
I have MS-Office 2003 Professional on my Machine.
I tried to create a new Word2003 Document project from my Existing Web Project in VS 2008 and It gave me the error MS-Office version on machine is not compatible with your project.

How can I add a word-2003 project to my existing Web Project.
    Solution will be highly appreciated.

  • Mike hasn't been part of the VSTO team for quite a while, now...

Which edition of VS 2008 do you have? Is it "Professional" or higher? If it is, then you have the complete set of Visual Studio Tools for Office for both Office 2003 and 2007. If you have a version that does not include the "Tools" you won't be able to do anything with VSTO.

VSTO 2005 SE will not work with VS2008, only with VS 2005. What's more, VSTO 2005 SE provides templates only for Add-ins, not for document-level customizations in Word and Excel.

So you should probably start your troubleshooting by uninstalling VSTO 2005 SE, then repairing your VS 2008 installation.

Then you need to check which edition of Office 2003 you have installed. Is it Office 2003 Professional or higher? If it's something else (Office standard, for example) then it doesn't contain the components VSTO requires to link into and you won't be able to use it with VSTO.
