How to Use WNS for windows phone 8.1 in built MDM app (workplace)

    Question

  • Hi Guys,

Is there any way to get push notification working for in build mdm app (workplace) for windows phone 8.1. I followed the link mentioned in protocol document but looks like those are for getting PFN for user apps and not for in built MDM app like workplace.

How do I get push notification details for Workplace ?

Is there any other reference for getting push credentials and PFN from device for Workplace for Windows phone 8.1 ?

Am I missing something here ?

  • You need to create an app and register it in your Dev Center account, as indicated in the instructions, to get a Package Family Name (PFN) value which your MDM server can use to configure the PFN value on the devices. This app should never be published and must remain as a place-holder for your WNS registration.

NOTE: If you delete the app registration then the PFN becomes invalid.
NOTE: If you publish the app and deploy to the same device which is managed then the app and DM client service will have a conflict over the WNS registration with undefined results, but likely causing one or both to fail.

  • Yes, you would use the same PFN for all devices enrolled with your MDM service.

  • Thank Eric for answer

What if I need to push notification to multiple devices enrolled to MDM server ? Do I need to use same PFN for every device enrolled to MDM server ? So if I have more than one device enrolled then PFN pushed on device through DM client CSP will the same for all devices is that the case ?
