High DPI map images? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi! My name is Jason and I am interested in using the Bing Maps API to create static map images. I am planning on using the images on mobile devices. I've noticed that on high DPI screens, the map image often looks too small and the labels are very hard to read.

The Google static map API offers a scale parameter that can be used to generate a map that is optimized for display on these devices. For example asking for a 400x400 pixel map with a scale of 2 actually produces an 800x800 pixel image which covers the same area (this is different from simply asking for an 800x800 image in the first place, since that image would display a larger portion of the map; see https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/staticmaps/#scale_values for a detailed example).

I was curious if the Bing Maps API offered something similar? I took a quick look at the REST API documentation but didn't see anything.

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Jason C.
