Easy Deployment of SQL Server (Help, About to Lose Contract!) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have built an application that relies on SQL Server as its database.

The PM at the client company took over a week to manage to install SQL Server, and was completely unable to install Management Studio.

The version of Advanced Installer that I use cannot automate installation of databases.

If I don't get an installation that automatically installs the database to him by tomorrow night, he is going to cancel my contract.

    What can I do?

  • Hello,

Please let us know if the following code helps you install SQL Server as part of your application:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd981032(v=SQL.100).aspx

    Hope this helps.

  • It offers a solution to detect if MS SQL is installed or not more than anything else. Still need to be able to run the SQL create script to load the database.

  • Hi A.Russell,

If you just need to install SQL Server Management Studio, you could download it from the link below.

Download: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Management Studio Express: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22985.

If failed, please post the error messages you came across.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks Maggie. I would have thought it was simple enough.

Unfortunately, he is unable to install the Management studio, and he considers it too difficult. He says he is the most computer savvy guy in his organisation, and he finds it unbearably difficult to install MS SQL Server and Management Studio

I am now trying to migrate to SQL Lite. ...unless anyone can offer a better suggestion?
