How to calculate the frame rate for H.264

    Question

  • I have parsed the Sequence Parameter Set and got the  timing_info_present_flag, num_units_in_tick, time_scale,fixed_frame_rate_flag information. How can I get the Frame rate from these data.  How can I calculate frame rate from SPS.

    Is it true that time_scale / (2 * num_units_in_tick) gives frame rate ??

  • there is no frame rate information in the h264 bitstream except for vui information, the vui section provide time_scale  and  num_units_in_tick  information, frame rate could roughly get from these variable, but it is
    not useful some time.

  • Hi,

there are really no frame_rate information. However number of NAL units is not always equal to number of frames.

Information about FPS may be found in SEI, but this is not guaranteed.
