Is it possible.... RRS feed

  • Question

  • To retrieve distances from Bing Map (we are using VE 6.3) and display them in our Sharepoint results list?

We currently have a SharePoint web part that searches for "providers' in our state (by City, Zip or County) and returns a list with a Bing Map mashup with pins displaying thier location.

Customers are now wanting to know distance information of those "providers" from where they are located (what search criteria is given, aka city or zip, county is too broad so we are removing that search criteria)

I have spent days trying to find out if this is possible, so now I am asking the experts.  Any response would be appriciated.

    Thanks - Eve

  • Ok, so in that case you can use the REST routes service. For example, to find the driving distance from London to Edinburgh, you'd call:

    http://dev.virtualearth.net/REST/v1/Routes?wayPoint.1=London&waypoint.2=Edinburgh&key=YOURBINGMAPSKEY

And look for the "travelDistance" element in the response - in this case, 650.612 (kilometres)
