  • Server audits can track activity on server-level objects by server logins. But tracking database activity on database objects by database users requires a database audit. A database audit can only audit activity in that one database. To audit activity in two databases, requires a separate database audit in each database. And though the database user might represent the same login in each database, the database user in each database is actually a separate entity. For example login Joe, might be user Joe (User_id = 12) in one database, but might be user Joe (User_id = 227) in another database. This help show why database audits are restricted to a single database.
