Failed getting grpWinStaList. Check your win32kbase symbols on Windows 10 or Win32 symbols on downlevel targets and try again. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good day everyone. Looking for more information about the error in subject.

    Scenario:

    I'm using livekd

    with !dskheap

command to get a list of Memory Usage per desktop session. This works great for Server 2008 R2 & 2012. Output is below:

    0: kd> !dskheap
      Winstation\Desktop Heap Size(KB) Used Rate(%)
    ------------------------------------------------------------
      WinSta0\Default 20480 0%
      WinSta0\Disconnect 96 4%
      WinSta0\Winlogon 192 2%
      Service-0x0-3e7$\Default 768 2%
      Service-0x0-3e4$\Default 768 1%
      Service-0x0-3e5$\Default 768 0%
    ------------------------------------------------------
                    Total Desktop: ( 23072 KB - 6 desktops)
                    Session ID: 0

However, once I try to use it in Server 2016 or 2019, I receive the following:

Failed getting grpWinStaList. Check your win32kbase symbols on Windows 10 or Win32 symbols on downlevel targets and try again. If your win32kbase or win32k symbols are correct, then desktop heap information may not be available for the chosen sessionID

Are there any changes in the latest releases and grpWinStaList is no longer present in OS?

Trying to find out how to get the resource usage for the Sessions in the latest releases.
