Handling ISA06/08 variations for same Trading Partner RRS feed

  • Question

  • The proper way to set up the ISA/GS for a trading partner who desires to route transactions internally would be like:

    ISA  TRADINGPARTNERID  GS PURCHASING

    ISA  TRADINGPARTNERID  GS SHIPPING

In this case the GS would be used to route transactions to either the purchasing department or the shipping department of the trading partner TRADINGPARTNERID depending on the value in the GS.  This appears to be the way that the EDI configuration for a party works in R2 -- you can configure one ISA ID and mulitiple GS IDs.

However, like with most of EDI, the real world doesn't always follow the standard.  Many times we see this method:

    ISA  TRADINGPARTNERIDPUR  GS TRADINGPARTNERIDPUR

    ISA  TRADINGPARTNERIDSHP  GS TRADINGPARTNERIDSHP

Here the same trading partner is using different ISA ID's to route messages internally.  There appears to be no method to support this in R2 without using multiple parties.

What is the proper method for implementing the non-standard method?

    Thanks,

  • Your thinking is correct. You would need multiple parties to resolve this since party resolution in R2 is dependent on the ISA segment. So 2 payloads having different ISA segments would have to be resolved to 2 different parties.
