Feature Request - Immersive Superbar

    General discussion

  • One of the things missing from the immersive enviroment is the Superbar.  This really is huge productivity loss.  So here is my suggestion for creating one.

First lets see what functionality is in the SuperBar

    1. Quick access to pinned apps
    2. Quick access to open programs
    3. Quick access to recent and pinned documents.
    4. Quick access to mini controls

So with that in mind, here is my suggestion.

imagine a long swiping motion from the left hand side brings in a horizontal row of open applications represented as large thumbnails mixed with pinned applications(very similar to the super bar now).  The pinned applications will be replaced by the active app if activated.  The pinned applications will always be in the same order and new applications that are unpinned will always open at the end.  If the app has a primary live tile that will be shown to represent the application when inactive.  Dragging up on an open application will reveal Active, Recently used, and pinned documents in a vertical stack.  With open documents above the tile and pinned and recently used below the tile with any duplicates eliminated.  The user can scroll between multiple documents with in that application (ie. tabs of a browser, or different document in Word) and choose the desired document within that application or simply press the main tile to open a new instance of the document.  The applications can also include mini controls similar to current superbar.  To close an application simply drag it off the bottom of the screen.  For multimonitor setups a represention of the multiple monitors will appear on the top half of the screen where the user can simply drag and drop the desired application its proper screen and location.

    What do you think?

  • Additionally since it would mimic the Superbar you can switch to or open apps by pressing the "win" key plus a number.  (Exp "win" + "3" to open the third item in your super bar.  This would also represent items on the traditional desktop as well, So anything pinned on the desktop will be pinned in the immersive super bar and vice versa tying the two togeather better.
