How to specify xll add-in description in excel options? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

I would like to specify the following fields for my C++ XLL adin in the Excel Add-Ins list located in Excel Options wizard (File -> Options).

    Add-in Name:
    Publisher:
    Compatibility:
    Location:
    Description:

'Add-in Name' I can specify in xlAddInManagerInfo12 function,

"Publisher" can be taken from signed certificate,

    'Compatibility' - no idea,

    'Location'  it is auto field,

    'Description' - no idea.

I know that for com addins (e.g. VSTO addins) "Description" can be specified in registry, but haven't found how to do it for usual addins.

    Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Andrey,

The information about the add-in should be included in the xlAddInManagerInfo.

Since there are no parameters to set the Description and Compatibility in xlAddInManagerInfo, I think there are no ways to set these 2 properties.

  • Hi Andrey,

As you said, the “Publisher” could be taken from signed certificate. But I’m afraid XLL did not provide the API to set the “Compatibility” and “Description” of add-in.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.

    Regards,

    Jeffrey
