using existing win32 dll in metro app

    Question

  • is it possible to use existing win32 dll (not COM dll) built with VS2008 in my metro app? assuming the dll does not use any of the blacklist APIs.

another question: if I build a win32 dll in VS11 for metro with "Enable Tailored Features" setting to "yes", can it be used in desktop app for Win8?

  • Hi Jennifer,

You probably cannot do so. It is likely a VS2008 DLL will use disallowed API via the C runtime. The other way should be fine, but again it will depend on what exactly the DLL does.

What results did you get when you tried these?
