branch creates extra folder hierarchy in project workspace RRS feed

  • Question

  • given a project $/LcHs/PAGENEW which has a workspace d:\project8\LcHs\PAGENEW

I right click and select branch.  I then changed the target from

$/LcHs/PAGENEW-branch   to  $/LcHs/PapeNew-8.0  and map the workspace to d:\project8\LcHs\PageNew-8.0

But I found that after the branch is created TFS is trying to check files in and out of d:\project8\LcHs\PageNew-8.0\PageNew-8.0.

It was painful to undo the extra folder hierarchy.  What did I do wrong, or is this a bug or a feature?

I have done this twice now on two different projects and am a bit frustrated by this misbehavior.

  • I remember filing a bug on this before v1, so you're not alone.  Look closely at the text above the Browse For Folder window; it should tell you exactly where the branch is being created.  It's by design, but the UI can be made better / more obvious.
