    Question

  • Hi,

Updating errors from closed files is a feature called Full solution analysis. It can be turned on and off from Tools->Options - https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt709421.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

In Update 2, the option was on by default but in Update 3 we had flipped it to be off by default because we had seen reports of users running out of memory with very large solutions. We are doing some work to run the full analysis outside the VS process in VS "15" that should alleviate a lot of the memory\perf concerns.

If you run into issues with the feature on\off please log issues in https://github.com/dotnet/roslyn/issues.

    Thanks,

  • Hi BlueFisher1,

    Thanks for your post.

Did you mean the error list in your Visual Studio?

To better understand your problem. Please provide us a screenshot of your UI.

In addtion, VS 2015 Update3 kb3165756  is a hotfix for VS2015 Updade3. And you can install it in Tools->Extension and Updates.

After finish installing it, you need to restart your Visual Studio.

If I misunderstood your issue, please feel free to let me know.

  • The Error List in the first picture is the error list I said.

    Here's the situation

I edit some code in an open file. But if the changes affect some relevant code in closed files, the Error List can't update these errors until I build the project or open these files.

  • Hi BlueFisher,

    Thanks for your response.

According to your description. I reproduced the issue in my VS2015 Update3. The error will not update unless you build the project.

But in VS2015 Update2. Once you change the code in a opened file which effect the closed file. The error will update in the error list immediately.

VS2015 Update2, not build the project, the error will update.

So I think the behavior in VS2015 Update3 is not correct. I have logged this issue to Microsoft Connect:
